Pairing Special [Chinese cuisine]

中華 ワイン ペアリング

Chinese cuisine is popular around the world. In France, Italy, and Spain, it is naturally eaten with wine. A wider variety of wines than Shaoxing wine or beer make for a more appealing pairing.

We've put together a list of Chinese food and wine pairings recommended by Mavi staff.

  • 3. Recommended wine set for pairing with chili shrimp

This set of two bottles of rose wine and white wine goes well with chili shrimp, a popular sweet and spicy Chinese delicacy. A dry rose wine pairs beautifully with dishes that are covered in the spiciness of chili peppers. A white wine with a certain amount of weight also goes well with the minerality of shrimp and the sweetness of the sweet and spicy sauce. Please enjoy them on the table.

The appeal of pairing Chinese food with wine

The four Chinese cuisines that are well known in Japan are Shanghai cuisine, Cantonese cuisine, Beijing cuisine, and Sichuan cuisine. These are collectively known as the Four Great Chinese Cuisines.

Chinese cuisine is very diverse, from the ingredients used to the seasonings and cooking methods. Because of the wide range of flavors, rosé wine, which has a flavor that is exactly halfway between red and white wine, goes well with it. It harmonizes with oily dishes and is an all-rounder that can accommodate a wide range of tastes.

Furthermore, if you keep in mind that red wine should be paired with dishes that use a lot of spices, such as mapo tofu, and white wine with Chinese dishes that use seafood and vegetables and have a mild flavor, you can expand the range of wine pairings.

There may be many people who have never paired Chinese food with wine. However, they actually go surprisingly well together, so we encourage you to give it a try.
