Veneto is located in northeastern Italy and is famous for the city of Venice and Verona, the setting for Romeo and Juliet. It is a major wine producing region that ranks first or second in Italian wine production, and produces many high-quality wines. Mavi's Veneto wines are attractive for their casual finish that goes well with everyday meals and their reasonable prices.
In 1986, the “Lison-Pramaggiore” DOC Wine Route was opened, which crosses the village’s wine-producing area. The Doge Wine Route, named after the Doge of Venice during the republic’s period, is also famous.
The Doge Wine Route is a unique route that allows you to discover the wine and culture of the cities, towns and vineyards of the Eastern Veneto and Western Friuli regions, where the main Roman road passes through the area and where you can see the Roman domus, public baths, city walls and early Christian basilica, especially the historic town centre of Portogruaro, which takes you back to this era.
Along the Wine Route there are numerous checkpoints marked with the "Lion of St. Mark" - wine companies that are members of the Consorzio Tutela association, where you can buy wines, and the Botteghe del Vino, a restaurant, tavern, bar and public place where you can taste the wines of the "Lison-Pramaggiore" DOC.
Organic history : Since 2004
In 1999, the current head of the family, Mr. Moreno, began to eliminate the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers in what is known in Japan as "special cultivation," and later switched to organic farming, which has even stricter regulations.
The area where the Musarranho family's vineyards are located is humid and difficult to make organic wine, so there are very few farmers who practice organic farming. There are only about three or four other farmers besides the Musarranho family. The yield is about 55% to 60% less than conventional farming.
The first three or four years were difficult, and Moreno spent long hours in the fields every day. However, the organic wine was well received by customers, and they themselves could see the difference in the finished product. "Organic farming is often difficult, but I can't go back to conventional farming," says Moreno.
Moreno also loves animals, and has horses, goats, and donkeys on his farm. Their manure is used as compost. There is also a river running around the farm, which protects the fields from the outside environment.
White grapes : Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Glera, Verduzzo
・Black grapes : Merlot, Refosco d'Alpedunco Rosso, Malbec
The white wines produced are mainly refreshing and easy to drink, using Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio, while the red wines produced are mainly full-bodied and satisfying, using Merlot and Pedunco Rosso.
We produce our wines in the "Lison-Pramaggiore" DOC, an area perfectly suited to many high quality grape varieties, where the passion and culture of winemaking has existed since ancient times, characterized by soils made up of alluvial deposits carried downstream by meltwaters of glaciers, especially during the third glacial period (known as the Würm period).
Past floods and repeated changes in the course of the Tagliamento River have left small deposits of calcareous silt that characterize most of the vineyards, and at a little deeper layers of carbonates. This calcium-rich soil allows the production of wines of great quality with complex aromas.
Fertilizer is compost
・Uses sulfur and copper instead of pesticides
The Musarranho family's top priority is working with the land in a way that is thorough and respectful of the natural environment, and they work carefully with agricultural research experts to select the right grape varieties.
・Introduction of constant temperature control system
・Uses filter presses to prevent oxidation
We use the latest technology, including a constant temperature control system that allows us to continuously monitor the temperature during brewing, and filter presses that remove air into computer-controlled stainless steel tanks to prevent oxidation.
Temperature control is essential, as temperatures can reach nearly 40°C in the summer. The building is equipped with cooling equipment, and the temperature during brewing is continuously monitored by a low-temperature control system.
The latest fruit juice press prevents oxidation by not introducing any air into the machine. Another feature is that it takes four hours to squeeze the juice slowly and gently.
Using a clean environment and the latest technology, we produce wines with a clear, clean taste.
Luca Maroni was the first Italian author of a wine guide magazine based on tastings, and is still publishing the "ANNUARIO DEI MIGLIORI VINI ITALIANI." He is one of the indispensable figures in Italian wine evaluation.

We enjoy making good wine from the natural grapes we grow.
There are many challenges. First of all, the weather. Once you become an organic producer, there are many challenges. You can't protect the grapes with chemicals, so there is a lot of manual work and it's very costly.
But with each harvest I challenge myself to do better. The ideal wine would be one that I and everyone else would love, one that is made using only natural systems and that lets you taste the grapes.
Organic farming is a lifestyle and I hope this is the future for everyone, because we need to respect the earth and ourselves. I am very proud of my choice to make organic wines and feel very satisfied every day.
My hobbies are winemaking, horses and vacationing on boats just with my family. My dream is to live in a world that respects nature and ourselves more.
As I walk through the fields, I always think about how people can enjoy delicious organic wine.
When you drink a glass of wine that we have made, I hope you will feel all the love I have for my grapes.
