Burgundy Taste Chart

Burgundy wine comparison chart

Burgundy is one of the two major wine-producing regions in France. The faults that run through the hills in Burgundy divide the strata of the fields into small pieces, resulting in a very complex structure, and the minerals contained in each small plot of vineyard in Burgundy are different. The diverse flavors that result from this are one of the great attractions of Burgundy wine.

Mavi carries wines from Pelletier in the Nuits region and Chapelle in Beaune, both in the north and south of the Côte d'Or, where the best wines in Burgundy are said to be produced.

Here we will introduce the delicate differences in flavor between Burgundy wines in an easy-to-understand chart.

Burgundy Vieilles Vignes Red

"Eat rather than drink" - a gourmet Burgundy with a rich feel

"Vieilles Vignes" is a wine made from grapes grown on vines that are over 60 years old. As grapes age, the skins of the grapes naturally become thicker, and the extracts from the skins of these grapes give the wine its depth and richness.

The aroma of red fruits and blackcurrants typical of Pinot Noir rises, and the impression on the palate is spicy and dry. It is astringent and strong, but not too tannic, making it elegant. The flavor gradually spreads deep in the mouth, and after settling, you can feel a subtle sweetness. The changing texture is enjoyable, and you will find yourself drinking glass after glass.

This is a highly recommended wine that is appealing whether you drink it now or after 2-3 years.

Santenay White

Santenay, where you can experience the sophistication that is the essence of the Chapelles

All of the Chapelle family's wines, both red and white, are so refined that Boisseau describes them as "exemplary wines that would be great to include in a wine textbook."

Among them, this Santenay is a model of Burgundy white wine. It has been aged in barrels for 10 months, so the moment you pour it into your glass, the aroma of almonds, nuts, and butter that reminds you of the barrel spreads. It has a scent reminiscent of dairy products such as yogurt and citrus fruits such as grapefruit. It is well-balanced and has almost no bitterness or astringency, so you can enjoy the pure deliciousness of the wine itself.

It has a mineral taste but a smooth aftertaste that will make you want to take another sip.
